Character Way

for grades 1-6
Character
Way is
a video based learning program designed to help children develop
into caring, respectful, responsible people who know what's right,
want what's right, and do what's right.
Each
grade module is organized around a delightful collection of short
vignettes which convey, in an entertaining and thoughtful way, such
positive qualities of character as honesty, fairness, and altruism.
These video dramas, fables, documentaries, and games provide teachers
with a fun way to teach good values and engage young students in
lively, meaningful class discussions.
Character
Way
is an excellent first step into character education, as well as
an exciting supplement to already existing programs.
Each
Module Includes:
Teacher Training
Videotape
This half-hour video gives teachers step-by-step instructions for
using Character Way in their classrooms. In addition, the second
half of this tape features Dr. Thomas Lickona,
author of Educating for Character, who
offers practical ideas for implementing character education both
schoolwide and in the classroom.
Teacher's Guide
How To Teach Character:
The guide's opening section encourages teachers to accept their
role as moral educators and explains the basics of character education
for young students.
Lesson Plans
Every segment has its own lesson plan which includes video instructions,
summary and analysis questions with expected student answers and
extension activities.
Parents' Report
Teachers can photocopy and send home to parents this report on the
contents of every lesson. This is a great tool to bolster parental
support of the school's work.
